SYDNEY HARBOUR AND ITS INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNISED ICONS

The Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House - the ideal setting for a major maritime and naval event.

Sydney’s proud maritime history is as old as the city itself. That story began with Australia’s first European settlement at Sydney Cove in 1788, when the ‘First Fleet’ of British convicts and free settlers arrived to establish a new colony.

Today, Sydney is Australia’s largest city and one of the major business centres of the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. With a wealth of maritime infrastructure, Sydney boasts a deep water port, an abundance of premier hotels and fine restaurants, as well as some of the world’s most beautiful waterways.

Its temperate climate, sandy beaches, scenic attractions and cosmopolitan facilities make Sydney a leading tourist destination and a favourite port of call for visiting naval vessels from around the world.

Sydney is the home of the Royal Australian Navy Fleet Headquarters and its Maritime Warfare Training Centre. The Royal Australian Navy Fleet Base East is just one kilometre from the Opera House along the southern shoreline of Sydney Harbour and adjacent to Australia’s largest dry dock and ship repair facility, the historic Garden Island naval dockyard. Sydney is the home of the Australian National Maritime Museum and also hosts the Royal Australian Navy Heritage Centre.

One of the nation’s major commercial shipping centres, Sydney is a principal destination for passenger ships and cruise liners.

THE LOCATION - ONE OF THE WORLD’S GREAT HARBOUR CITIES

PACIFIC 2015  will be staged at the Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island.

Perched on Sydney’s picturesque harbour foreshore near the Anzac Bridge and just minutes from Darling Harbour, the interim location of Sydney Exhibition Centre is at Glebe Island on the edge of the historic Balmain precinct with its rich maritime heritage.

Built to fully exploit its unique harbour location, the Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island is quintessentially “Sydney”. With the Harbour Bridge on one side and the Anzac Bridge on the other, its outlook is a fascinating seaside cityscape. Cruise ships leisurely amble by, while work vessels and tug boats busily bustle about.

Located just minutes from the central business district, the Centre is easy to reach by both ferry and bus. A frequent ferry shuttle service connects the Centre with Darling Harbour and Circular Quay.

Appropriate to the role of PACIFIC 2015  as a major international maritime and naval defence industry forum, the Sydney Exhibition Centre at its Glebe Island location combines a spectacular harbour-side setting with deep-water berths alongside, and nearby, for ships on display.

A range of hospitality options, and the nautical ambience of its maritime location, make PACIFIC 2015  the perfect place to combine business with pleasure.
